Bottle Nosed Dolphins on George's Bank (With Video Clip)

Just two trips ago on George's Bank (about 5 days ago) I was taking a few pictures of the dolphins and shot a short video of them swimming in front of the boat. They were jumping and playing around the boat and there was an amazing amount of photo-ops for a person who is fast with the camera. I am not that fast but I am learning to be. I hope you enjoy these images of Bottle Nosed Dolphins in the Northwest Atlantic. All images are copyrighted all rights reserved.

This was the one. (:

The dolphins go under as I dial with the polarizer trying to cut the glare and get underwater images of them.

It isn't easy to get pictures under the water. Focus is difficult the glare is tough and dolphins are extremely fast in the water.

Jumper!!

Out on George's Bank the dolphins come to check out the boat.

I am not sure if everyone here is a dolphin there was a whole pod of pilot whales around too.

A dolphin jumps out of the water while racing along in front of the boat.

This one has a lot of old scars and injuries. The one by the blowhole is pretty severe.

The underwater dolphin family portrait.

(:

A little video clip of some Bottle Nosed Dolphins on George's Bank in the North West Atlantic taken from F/V Osprey.

This article is for my youngest daughter who has loved dolphins since the day she first saw one.

I would like to thank Corndog for his assistance in getting these images and video, without him they would not have been possible.

Good luck Sean, perhaps we will sail together again.

Thanks Jobs. The dolphins like the same fish as us but I don't see the bottle nose dolphins near shore much. Maybe they don't like all of the gillnets.

Gosh, that one with all the injuries! How sad, it must be an awfully strong, healthy one to have survived so much! Fascinating pitures, jj! I've never seen one *in person* so to speak, just pictures and movies. Neat! Thanks so much! :-)

They all appear to have little scratches right next to each other like they got raked by sharp teeth very close together. Must be a method of communication.

rottlady- I am glad you liked the pictures. Watching the dolphins at play makes my heart happy and renews my passion for keeping the ocean the wild habitat that it should be.

Anna- You can hear them whistling to each other in the video. It is subtle because they are under water but you can hear them.

Too funny 'cause from the clip, to this land locked Chicagoan, it looks like you were cruising.

Lovely! Have gone diving with Dolphins in 60 feet of clear, blue water off the island of Roatan, off Hounduras, and in the Florida Keyes. They are wonderful creatures who are curious and can be very friendly to us humans. It was a thrill to touch them, they will roll on thier sides, if they accept you, and let you rub their bellies. They feel like velvet. Thanks for bringing back some very happy memories. Great shots. It breaks my heart to see them scarred up, but here in Florida, boating is king, and way too fast for them to get out of harms way sometimes. Beautiful, beautiful.

Wow, you really outdid yourself, JJ. I got to swim with a dolphin once, and it was an amazing experience. I got into trouble there because I kept calling my dolphin over to me and other people in the group were afraid of theirs. Nice shots!
