Shipyard Guard Cats for Foto-Friday

Fri Sep 9, 2011 11:46 PM EDT

The guard cats of the Thames River Shipyard. If it was dark out this scene could easily get out of hand in a hurry.

These guard cats may look like a bunch of pussies but the way they sit around in the middle of the road like they own the joint tells me that they are probably meaner than junkyard dogs when they need to be.

Feeding time at the Thames River Shipyard finds the security team having a snack.

Sunburst in traffic. It's pretty in Connecticut.

A blue shark chases the smell of herring right to the stream of herring juice coming out of the side of the boat. It almost seemed like it was playing in the stream of water but I don't think sharks play that.

An ocean sunset. This is from the last trip I took on Western Venture.

JJ, I love that last sunset -- simply incredible, but I think the guard kitties are my favorites. Clearly, they are a force to be reckoned with!

All kitties and puppies need someone to love them! At least no one is rounding them up and euthanizing them, either. Sweet little kitties...

I am really tired tonight but I wanted to add a picture I just took of the guard cats eating their dinner on their very own table. Thanks for stopping by to check out the pictures. (:

I am purchasing my first digital camera!! Who knows about these things? I am looking at the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V, (direct from Sony, free shipping). Should I purchase this, or is there a better one for about the same dollars? Please advise.

Depends on what you really want out of a camera. The HX9V is a great little camera I also have an older version that I love cause I can stuff it in a pocket and take it anywhere.

BUT, it will not do the same as a Larger camera. Look at the specs on these 2 sony's (the one you want and a larger one) http://www.dpreview.com/news/1102/11020110sonyhx100vhx9v.asp

As you can see it is $50 more for the larger camera and you can't stick it in a pocket and twice the weight, but it has a longer reach (zoom) and more ISO capability. It is also a fixed lens so you can not change lenses, what you have on both is it.

WOW on that SUNSET! You need to enter that one in a contest or produce it in poster prints for sale.

Love the Kits-saw one that looks like my kits cousin...

Great shots, JJ. Who the heck feeds all the cats? They can't ALL be eating the mice (and playful shark leftovers).

There's something about the first image that reminds me of the American Ash Can School of Painting ... check it out and see if you agree ...

Like your kitties..MightyJ. Your Sunset..taken on your last trip of the Western Venture..is Golden, peaceful & very calming.
So nice..one could just swim for hours..or float on her back. Looks really deep..& assuming..the ocean is filled with sharks?
So, i'll just meditate..beautiful..MightyJ.

Hi Tami !! I am glad you liked the shark pictures. We are almost done fixing the Osprey so I am going to be back on the water soon, hopefully getting a few pictures of wild life. The dolphins migrate in October so I am hoping to get pictures of them again this year.

Welcome to the Newsvine. (:

My neighbors moved leaving a dozen feral and abandoned cats to feed. They are mine now. I love them all and they are so funny. They want to be friendly and will come close, run away and repeat this over and over again. Tucker the Cat sits on the lanai and calls, "Hello" to them.

Great photo, JJ, happy weekend!
